Dr Simon Watts
Profile

Dr Simon Watts is PGR Training Coordinator and Deputy Head of the Graduate School in the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of East Anglia and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. In his role at UEA, he is responsible for the PGR student experience, organises all the research, professional development, and advanced training programs for the doctoral cohort, and teaches extensively on these programmes. He is UEA’s representative on the training working group of the ‘South East Network for Social Sciences’ (SeNSS) Doctoral Training Partnership. Simon also delivers a series of online training sessions attended by PGR students studying at over 40 different UK universities. In excess of 4300 PGR students and academic staff attended these online sessions in the academic year 2018-19. Simon primarily publishes instructional papers in the area of research methodology/skills and his various book and journal publications have been cited over 3100 times since 2014. He is currently writing a book to accompany the online training series entitled 'Research & Professional Skills for Postgraduates: Practical Advice from a Secret Supervisor', to be published by Sage in 2020-21.
