This workshop is designed to provide an understanding of how to critically appraise quantitative observational research papers. By the end of the workshop you should be able to:
* understand what is meant by critical appraisal and why it is necessary
* understand the different types of observational evidence (longitudinal studies, cohort studies, cross-sectional surveys)
* assess a range of observational research papers for validity, reliability, and applicability
* locate checklists and guides for critically appraising observational studies
This is an interactive workshop. Participants will work in groups and are encouraged to share their learning and experiences. It is presented by a health researcher and is probably most useful to those undertaking research in health and social care topics.

PLEASE NOTE: This session is presented by a health researcher and is probably most useful to those undertaking research in biomedical and health sciences or the social sciences. Examples used are mainly of a Medical Nature
