Examination and the Viva (Humanities and Social Sciences)
Domain: D2 Communication and dissemination

TACE: C - Completion

Format: Workshop
Suitable for: Late

This workshop looks at how to engage in thorough preparation for the examination of your thesis. We will briefly consider the rationale for the way PhDs are examined, then look at preparation of the text in the period before submission, and at preparing yourself for the oral examination (Viva Voce). Through attendance at this workshop, you will:

* understand how doctoral assessment differs from other education assessment
* understand the purpose of the UK viva voce
* understand Cardiff University procedures
* devise strategies to prepare for your own viva, including how to anticipate questions

Examination and the Viva (Sciences) is also available

NOTE: It is recommended that you attend the PhD ‘Mock Viva’ event as well as this workshop.

Further information about thesis preparation and the viva can be found here.

The different outcomes of a PhD/MD viva can be found in the Academic Regulations handbook.
