Mock Viva (Humanities and Social Sciences)
Domain: D2 Communication and dissemination

Format of Workshop: Information and Discussion/Practical
Suitable for: All

These entertaining events aim to de-mystify the PhD viva by providing an example of a ‘good viva’ and a ‘bad viva’. A team of staff takes on the roles of Chair, Internal Examiner, External Examiner and PhD candidate. By the end of the session, you will:
* be familiar with the format of a typical PhD viva
* know what types of question might be asked and how to prepare yourself
* have an understanding of the processes involved before, during and after a PhD viva

On the 31st of May we want to welcome:
Chair: Dr Megan Leitch
External: Prof Martin Willis
Internal: Prof Bill Bell
Candidate: Dr Charlotte Boman
MC: Prof Martin Kayman

Note: The processes involved in a viva are covered in both mock viva events. Therefore, anyone unable to attend the event relevant to their discipline is welcome to attend the alternative offering.

Further information about thesis preparation and the viva can be found here.

The different outcomes of a PhD/MD viva can be found in the Academic Regulations handbook.
