Progressing into Leadership
Domain: B1 Personal qualities

TACE: A - Acquisition
Format: Practical
Suitable for: All

This course builds from the Doctoral Academy’s foundational programme ‘Preparing for Leadership’. It sets out to equip participants to step-into leadership opportunities through a practice-based perspective and provide the scaffolding to support the development of a self-directed approach to growing their leadership skills. The ultimate aim is that participants are better equipped to make a choice to step into leadership opportunities which present themselves, both through and beyond their academic studies.

The programme is designed to work with participants to consider leadership in the context of their work now and in the future. It adopts a blended approach and is intended as a practice-focused, reflective and learner-centred programme. It is delivered through a series of three one-day workshops, along with some experiential activities, group working, peer support, and self-report questionnaires. An element of the programme also includes an introduction to peer-based coaching through ‘coaching questions’.

By attending the course, you will learn how to:

* lead yourself by developing your self-awareness, building your resilience, and self-directing your leader-skills development
* lead with others by stepping into leadership opportunities, collaborating with and engaging others, and developing negotiating styles, influencing, and a ‘coaching questions’ style
* lead for outcomes by navigating uncertainty, holding your career direction lightly, clarifying what is most important to you, and establishing success criteria
