A common struggle for postgraduate researchers is finding the motivation and will to stay focused and get a substantial piece of writing done. It is all too easy to fall into the trap of procrastinating by checking emails, completing administrative tasks or simply surfing the internet. What this retreat provides is an opportunity for you to devote a whole day to writing in a quiet, structured, and supportive environment. It will open with a short discussion on good writing practice, how to approach your writing as a professional task, as well as a group discussion on your writing goals for the day. Once this introductory session is over, the vast majority of the day (at least five hours) will be devoted to writing without distraction (i.e. no internet, no mobile phones etc.).

Below is a programme of the day:
09:30 - Arrival with tea and coffee
09:45 - Introduction and discuss writing goals in small groups
10:00 - Writing Session 1
11:30 - Break
11:45 - Writing Session 2
13:00 - Lunch
13:45 - Writing Session 3
14:45 - Break
15:00 - Writing Session 4
16:00 - Summing up and planning for your next writing session
