Finishing Your PhD
Domain: B2 Self-management

Format of Workshop: Information
Suitable for: Late stage researchers

Designed for students who are in the final throes of their PhD, this workshop looks at some of the practical issues and concerns you might have about getting your thesis to submission and surviving if it looks like running over. Experts from Registry, the Library Service and Student Advice at Cardiff University Students’ Union will offer you advice on: how to submit your thesis and arrange your viva; how to deposit an electronic copy of the final version of your research degree thesis into ORCA (Online Research at Cardiff), including consideration of whether a bar on access may be needed; and how to fund your studies after your third year if needed and what to do when you experience problems with the progression of your research. By the end of this session you will:
* understand the procedures for submitting your thesis and arranging your viva
* be able to store an online version of your thesis
* know where to turn for advice if things start to go wrong
* understand issues surrounding entitlement to welfare benefits
