According to the latest research by Vitae, freelancing is becoming an increasingly popular career destination for postgraduate researchers, with 8% choosing to pursue self-employment after graduating. In this workshop, which is run by the Enterprise and Start-up team in Careers & Employability, Claire Parry-Witchell will give an overview of what working as a freelancer is really like, drawing on over 20 years of personal experience. In particular, the session will cover:

* pro's and con's of self-employment
* myths and fears
* what is involved
* do's and don'ts
* first steps

Although this session is not specifically tailored for postgraduate researchers, it will be of interest to any student considering a career as a freelancer.
