Inkscape for Easy Illustrations
Domain: A1 Knowledge base

Format of workshop: Information and Practical
Suitable for: All

Inkscape is a fabulous drawing tool for constructing anything from simple line diagrams to complex illustrations of publication quality. It is a fantastic way to illustrate your thesis or papers. Inkscape is free software that even a beginner can use to create simple, effective and striking figures; in the hands of an expert it can be used to create sophisticated illustrations. In technical terms Inkscape is an SVG-based graphics editor, featuring alpha blending, node editing, SVG to PNG export, and much much more. It aims to be a fully-fledged vector drawing tool with most of the sophisticated features available in Illustrator, CorelDraw, and Visio. It is available for Linux, Windows and Mac environments - and it’s free! Download the program from http://inkscape.org.
The aim of this session is to introduce the beginner to the fundamental concepts of Inkscape and will involve a hands-on interactive workshop in which the tutor, as often as not, will learn as much as the students! The workshop is not aimed at experienced users of Inkscape who are probably better off studying the numerous tutorials available on YouTube.
