Careers in Focus: Culture and Heritage
Domain: B3 Professional and career development

This event for postgraduate research students and research staff in all disciplines aims to raise awareness of career opportunities in the Culture and Heritage sectors for those with well-developed research and transferable skills.

These sectors offer a wide range of opportunities in ‘generic’ areas such as marketing/PR, communications, finance, strategy/policy, research, planning, education, human resource management, IT, as well as the more ‘traditional’ roles of collection management, conservation, curatorial work, exhibitions, etc.

Organisations represented will include:

- CyMAL (Museums, Archives and Libraries Wales)
- Glamorgan Record Office
- Newport Museum Service
- Royal Commission on Historical Monuments
- Wellcome Library
- National History Museum – St Fagan’s
- National Museum - Cardiff

We have a range of speakers who are specialists in marketing, academic engagement/outreach, conservation, archives, building conservation, and curatorial work. We also have speakers who work bilingually in Welsh and English.

Speakers will offer insights into career paths and entry methods as well as how to find jobs and what employers are looking for. They can also provide guidance on the role of volunteering as preparation for moving into these sectors.
